Heroes - Meeting them
good thread earlier about heroes but do they live up to expectation?

I met bobby moore in the car park about 4 months before he died, I took my cousin and it was sheer fluke. Was a gentleman, but even my 8 yr old cousin said he looked thin. we were in he queue for north bank.

Met Marvin Hagler and we became "friends" i.e i chase him rather than he chase me but we have had great chats about Ray Leonard fight and others. He really is the hero i had in my mind

do u have a hero that lived up to it or didnt?

The Queen has met me.
Not sure how she felt about it, or even if I am a hero of hers?

I have met Liam Gallagher twice and he has been an absolute gent on both occasions. Always gave time to fans for photos and autographs and he was getting mobbed but was at Beady Eye events. Laughing, chatting and smiling then whe he poses for photos he plays up and pulls the front man stance and gaze. Was with my old man and he was good as gold. Absolute legend.

Also spent an hour or so with Victoria Pendleton recently at an event and she was lovely. Non stop chat, really friendly. Was actually quite shy which is probably cos she is from sporting background as opposed to celebrity.

I meet Frank McAvennie in the bar at Welling United after he had just played for our reserves against Charlton.

Me and a mate snuck in there, we were only about 14. He spoke to us for a few minutes and I just stood there like a lemon.

MAMM - Any time yo!

I don't think I've met actual 'heroes' as i put on the other thread but I've met loads of famous people.

As MAMM said Ian Brown is a top bloke.
Toured with him, he used to text me all the time and he sent me ViP's for the Roses gig at V festival. etc

Having toured and hung out with Depeche Mode quite a lot, they are all down to earth top guys, really sympathetic when they found out about my brother and also when my mum passed away, very generous as well.

Grandmaster flash is an absolute cunt.

We had a fight with RUN DMC.

Everyone else is normal to be honest.

Meeting Marley Marl in NY last year was a highlight, one of Hip Hops legends.

I have very few regrets but not having my photo taken with Brownie and Mani when out with them in Manchester is one, Bez was fucking hilarious that night!

Also having dinner in NY and sitting with Sam Rockwell all night chatting away and not recognising him.

Not that anyone here would know who he is but I met one of my favourite Photographers a few months ago in Canary Wharf and shared a pint with him. He was actually a really nice bloke.

cholo

He was very rude to everyone that spoke to him some guy wanted a photo with Coogan and even had his little kid with him and Coogan told him to put the camera away and go away. The kid looked so shocked. He was also rude to the train staff. I spoke to him as I has seen him live 3 times and he just ignored me. He then told someone off for talking too loud on their mobile and then a few minutes later did the same on his phone the prick.

Re: Heroes - Meeting them
I met Chris Eubank at a golf course in Ireland, was sat next to his dentist (charity golf day)...asked the guy if that was Chris Eubank over there & the dentist said he was and Mr Eubank came at sat with us for a while.

Great guy and couldn't have been nicer to one of his biggest fans.

Met George Best in 1993 at a 5 a side tournament in the city, lovely guy...he was my dads hero, Dad had to work so couldn't make it. Played against him & the photo I got with him is still framed pride of place above my folks fireplace.

I've met a fair few sports people & actors in my time but one that sticks out is John Motson, met him at Cheltenham...very chatty & assured me west ham wouldn't get relegated (Zola) and he was right.

One most on here won't know is former Ny Yankee Jason Giambi...was in my local supermarket in Las Vegas last Thanksgiving....I was stood at the check out with my Mrs & said to her "I think that's Jason Giambi" my mrs "who's jason giambi?" and he looked over & said "I used to play for the yankees, held his hand out to shake mine & just started chatting to me"

wished us happy holiday after posing for a photo...lovely fella.

Met Trevor Brooking a few times as a kid. They say you shouldn't meet your heroes but he just gets bigger. An absolute legend of a man.

Re: Heroes - Meeting them
As some of you know I used to have a job where I took the rich and famous around on a great big motorcycle so I met loads doing that. I remember the other week there being a thread on Mel Sykes and a lot of people were saying she had a reputation for being a cunt. I took her around loads and as you'll see on that jungle thing she's as nice a woman as you'll ever meet. A proper, down to earth northern bird (and there's fuck all wrong with that).

Anyway I've taken people like all the Spice Girls (no, not all at once), David Beckham, Bruce Willis, David Cameron (and a load of MPs), Robert Plant, Richard Branson and countless others and I couldn't have given a fuck. The only person I ever took who affected me was Tony Gale. A lovely bloke but I was like a starstruck little girl, purely because he engaged the 10-year-old West Ham supporter in me.

I was in the players lounge once with a pal who knew some of the players. Suddenly Lucas Neil walks up to me with his hand outstretched and says 'hello Chim, hows it going?' and I totally froze up and didn't even shake his hand. I was just thinking 'how the fuck does he know my name'? then I looked round and my pal was pissing himself laughing.

I'm such a poof when it comes to meeting West Ham players.
